All Project Managers strive for projects that are carried out on time and on budget, with sensitivity and concern for the needs of end-users and the University community as a whole.  There are many complex issues to be addressed during the course of a project including  siting, utility service, permitting, contractor oversight and construction quality .  As a public institution, The University of Rhode island is subject to laws and policies that define how competitiveness and fairness goals will be addressed in the selection of designers and contractors, how contractors will be paid and how disputes will be settled.  The University has also  developed its own standards for all Capital Project contracts, including:

The URI Sexual Harassment Policy

URI Manual for Construction Project Safety Procedures

URI Hot Work Procedure

URI Managing Fire Protection System Impairment

URI Water System Regulations/Policies

Some of the other  standards, regulations and code issues that must be addressed during construction projects include,  but are not limited to:

Removal of asbestos containing materials (ACM)

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

Building Officials and Code Administrations (BOCA)

Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)

Rhode Island Department of Environmental Protection (RI DEM)

US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

LEED building requirements and certification,

State of Rhode Island minimum wage laws and

local code enforcement inspection requirements.
