COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

  • Groups to talk about re-recognition bill
    • SOLC
      • Group needs funding to run retreats.
      • Funds for retreats will be in senate accounts.
        • All groups will still be able to have retreats
        • SOLC will still complete forms for retreat
          • Signatories for the retreats will be the Student Senate President and Treasurer

      • Group status: academic
        • Group submitted their mission statement emphasizing a close relationship to the Center for Student Leadership Development.
          • The submitted mission statement was taken from the SOLC website, not their constitution.
          • Group submitted the correct mission statement.
        • There is a SOLC class (classified as an internship)
          • The SOLC group has no relationship to the class.
        • Supplies for the organization are retreat specific
        • SOLC has been a gray area for many years
    • SSDP (Students for Sensible Drug Policy)
      • Understands how the group may be construed as political
        • National organization encourages chapter to be political
          • Group has the independence to not advocate for specific policies
        • Feels as though the group is educational in nature
          • Discusses current policy and how it is harmful
          • Does not have official stances on drug policy
      • Needs funding to participate as a group
        • Hemp-Fest: educated students on the harms of the current drug policy
          • Advertisement for events
        • Funding to send members to national conferences for workshops and outreach activities.
    • Panhellenic Council
      • Self identified as social/other
        • Senate cannot fund philanthropic organization
        • Group did not submit a mission statement to clarify the group’s status
          • Provided one at the meeting

      • Submitted new recognition material
      • Revised their category from community service to outreach
    • Muslim Students Association
      • Group self-recognized as a religious group
      • Mission statement clarified that the group is more cultural in nature
    • Alima International Dance Association
      • Submitted a constitution
      • Recommend taking group off probation
    • Asian Students Association
      • Submitted material to be in line with the model constitution
      • Recommned taking group off probation
    • Musically Inclined
      • Resubmitted mission statement
      • Clarified that the group is not academic in nature
    • URI Quidditch
      • Resubmitted mission statement
      • Recommend taking group off probation
