Biomedical engineers apply engineering methods and principles, adapting technology to solve problems in the life sciences and medicine in order to improve and save lives. Our students learn how to design and develop medical equipment and instrumentation for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases and health problems as well as for use in biological research.

Major Entry Requirements

 Students Entering in 2026:

  • Complete at least 24 units and have an overall GPA of at least 2.00.
  • Complete the following courses with a GPA of 2.00 for the set and earn at least a C- in each course: CHM 101/102; MTH 141, 142; PHY 203/273; and either PHY 204/274 or CHM 112/114.

Students Following Catalog Year 2025 or Earlier:

  • Complete at least 24 units and have an overall GPA of at least 2.00.
  • Complete the following courses with a GPA of 2.00 for the set and earn at least a C- in each course: CHM 101/102; EGR 105, 106; MTH 141, 142; PHY 203/273; and either PHY 204/274 or CHM 112/114.
