What is one piece of teaching advice that you have received that you would like to pass on to others?
“Meet your students where they are.” The goal is not only to impart knowledge but to inspire and facilitate meaningful learning experiences.
What are the three qualities that you think make a great teacher?
- Adaptability: In a rapidly changing world, it is important to understand each student’s unique background, abilities, and learning styles. By doing so, one can tailor teaching strategies to better engage and support them, fostering a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
- Integrity: Teaching is the highest form of leadership, so therefore we should lead by example. Leaders who demonstrate integrity earn the trust and respect of their students.
- Vision: A clear and compelling vision for the future. This provides a sense of purpose and direction. A great teacher is always inspiring others to aim higher and work together towards common goals, driving innovation and change.
What are you excited to do next in the classroom?
I am eager to incorporate case studies and group projects into the curriculum. I believe these methodologies will not only foster a collaborative learning environment but also enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, thereby enriching their academic and professional skills.
What do you hope students look back on in ten years and say about your classes?
I hope they look back and say they remember my classes being transformative and that I created an environment where curiosity was encouraged, and mistakes were seen as opportunities for growth. I hope they mention it wasn’t just about the grades, but about understanding the world in a deeper way. I hope my students will say they felt genuinely cared for and are inspired to pursue their goals with confidence and resilience.
How do you envision incorporating teaching into your future career?
As someone who is both an educator and a mother, I teach as part of my daily life. I have a goal of including global teaching experiences in my future career path. I believe that teaching in diverse cultures and settings will enhance my professional journey and increase my capacity to impact different students positively.
What is your favorite place to visit in Rhode Island? Why?
I love to visit Scarborough State Beach for long walks and jogging. I like it because it is on the beach, typically quiet, and the people there are very friendly.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to cook, sing, and dance.
