Whether planning for a new course or redesigning an existing one, we generally ask ourselves: 

  • Who are my students?
  • What do they need to learn?
  • What role does my course play within their degree curriculum and their overall experience at URI?
  • What are the resources, spaces, and teaching modalities I can work with?
  • What are the key characteristics of the involved subject, teachers, and learners?
  • What other institutional and contextual circumstances inform the choices I can make?

On Campus

Designing on campus courses includes the challenges of determining what is the most effective use of in person time, what campus resources can be integrated into the course, and incorporating lessons learned from COVID around access, time, and flexibility within a familiar structure.
