Most students will enter your blended learning course with, at best, a vague idea of what
blended learning means. Most will just be focused on the fact that they don’t have to come to
class as often and will see the online component as homework. It is crucial that you define
blended learning as it will take place in your course right away, and that you reinforce the
concept regularly.
You can’t explain enough in the beginning of the course what this means and how it will
work. Your definition and explanation should be in your initial contact with your students, the
start here section of your Brightspace page, the syllabus, and you should reiterate it on the first
day, and then again on second and maybe even again the third and so forth.
You’ll want to make sure both in your design and in how you facilitate in class that you
thread the spaces together so they don’t seem distinct or separate or that one is more important
than another.
