Book Club: Inclusive Excellence

Join Dr. Katie Branch and Dr. Anna Santucci for discussions around the book, Bandwidth Recovery: Helping Students Reclaim Cognitive Resources Lost to Poverty, Racism, and Social Marginalization by Dr. Cia Verschelden.

  • What does inclusive excellence in teaching look like? What are the core considerations?
  • How do racism, poverty, and marginalization influence our capacity to learn? What socio-psychological phenomena undermine our brains’ resources?
  • Which practices are most promising for enhancing cognitive bandwidth and holistic learning? As a teaching practitioner, how can I best strategize for equity and student success by promoting Bandwidth Recovery?
  • What actual steps can I take to make positive, sustainable change?

Our Book Clubs feature small groups of faculty who meet for critical conversations, shared learning and reflection. There is no more opportune time to address many of the real concerns that face us around such issues – and to find solutions that move us toward equity and an increase in every student’s sense of belonging. Participants receive their own copy of the book.
