Biography

Associate Professor, College of Education, with a passion for adult (and young adult) learning, development and education. She carries over 15 years of successful teaching and scholarship experiences around designing and facilitating dynamic higher education learning experiences, workshops, seminars and one on one mentoring and coaching sessions for graduate students and faculty.

Courses taught at URI include: academic writing for doctoral studies, instructional design, leadership and a diverse array of content areas around andragogy (teaching adults well). Equity is a core focus, alongside three “C’s”that undergird my research, practice and interactions: creativity, community and compassion.

Kayon’s thoughts on her Faculty Leader role: “graduate teaching assistants occupy a uniquely complex professional space: they are simultaneously learners, teachers, mentors, (sometimes) counselors -yet always emerging professionals managing varied workloads and a rapidly shifting global and technological environment. This blend of “identities” requires intentional support. I am excited to partner with them toward success – and to learn from them in the process…” Dr. MJ
