Overview
Despite the most advanced healthcare system in the world, the United States has lagged behind similar countries with respect to maternal mortality. Additionally, despite labor/delivery being a biomechanics phenomenon whereby the mother’s pelvis has to adjust to allow fetal descent through the birth canal, little research exists describing how maternal biomechanics changes impact postpartum outcomes. Thus, we are investigating the impact maternal pelvis and lower extremity biomechanics have throughout pregnancy on postpartum maternal and newborn outcomes.
