This year’s incoming class, made up of over 3,200 new first-year students and 500 transfer students, is one of the most academically talented and diverse in the university’s history. The most popular majors among incoming students are animal science, biology, business, criminology and criminal justice, engineering, kinesiology, nursing and pharmacy.

Professor Jill Doerner to sit on RI Governor’s Gun Safety Working Group
Professor Doerner will be one of the approximately 40 members that will meet to discuss and develop recommendations to counteract the gun violence epidemic. Issues to be considered include identifying loopholes in the background check system and reporting processes, preparing for and preventing mass shooting events, and addressing domestic violence, suicide, and mental health.

There’s a new major in town. Beginning in the fall, an interdisciplinary major in criminology and criminal justice will be available, with courses from the sociology, political science, psychology, gender and women’s studies, economics, and chemistry departments.
