Lily Truppi

Biography

“Lily Truppi is a life-long Rhode Island resident and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice and a B.A. in Gender and Women Studies with minors in Sociology and Anthropology.

During her undergraduate career she participated and completed the URI Honors program presenting a capstone titled, “Performing from Under the Penal Gaze: Examining What Incarcerated People Post to TikTok,” which analyzed the ways in which the public views the incarcerated population using criminological theory. Additionally, Lily worked and published research under Dr. Kathleen McIntyre on Black women’s suffrage in RI.

Lily recently graduated from Northeastern University with a M.S. in Criminology and Criminal Justice. During Lily’s graduate studies, she worked as a research assistant on a study that analyzed the effectiveness of the BRAVE unit at MCI-Concord, a medium security men’s facility in Massachusetts. The BRAVE unit was designated for young fathers between the ages of 18- 26 who were provided resources on repairing and strengthening familial bonds between incarcerated parent and child. In the spring semester, Lily helped facilitate voting registration for incarcerated men at Nashua St. Jail in Boston, MA.

Lily is looking forward to teaching her first course at URI in Fall 2024!”
