Why Chess?

Chess has been played and enjoyed by people around the world for almost two thousand years. Summer is a great time to enroll your children in this state-wide chess program. We believe learning and playing chess directly contributes to academic performance. Studies show that children who learn chess show rapid improvements in:

  • mathematics,
  • reading,
  • spatial awareness,
  • visualization,
  • focus,
  • social skills and much more.

Not only does chess engage students of all learning styles and strengths, but it also promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

How does it work?

Whether playing for fun or competition, brand-new to the game or experienced, this summer chess program caters to all children of different abilities and offers:

  1. Instruction for new players – Don’t know how to play chess? Come to the club and learn the game.
  2. Recreational play – Providing a fun environment for kids to come and play chess with each other.
  3. Instruction for experienced players – For the player ready to advance, begin studying tactics and
    strategies.
  4. Club competition – Have mini-tournaments and competitions to stimulate interest.
  5. Tournament competition – Competing with other schools or participating in local tournaments offers a new level of excitement and also provides incentive for advanced instruction.
