Combat Covid-19

Dear members and friends,

We would like to thank you all for your generous donation and support! Together, we made a difference!

The URI Chinese Culture Club (URI-CCC) has raised over $12,000 to combat COVID-19 pandemic. Part of this fund was used for purchasing face masks. These face masks have been donated to:

  • Lifespan
  • South County Hospital
  • Thundermist Health Center
  • Jonnycake Center
  • South Kingstown Police Department
  • URI Health Center and on-campus Emergency Medical Service (EMS)
  • URI Food Service and Maintenance Staff

We also received urgent personal protection equipment (PPE) requests from doctors and nurses who are closely connected to our URI community. Our Club delivered medical N95 respirators directly to our front-line doctors and nurses who are fighting COVID-19 at:

  • Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA
  • Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA
  • Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
  • Kaiser Permanent Moanalua Hospital, Honolulu, HI
  • Spectrum Health Hospitals, Grand Rapids, MI
  • Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Baton Rouge, LA
  • Shands Hospital, Gainesville, FL
  • University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX

In addition, our Club joined the Rhode Island Chinese-American Anti-COVID-19 Task Force chaired by our Club’s long-term friends, Sunny Ng and Louis Yip. The Task Force has so far donated 200,800 surgical masks to the RI Department of Health! Our Club contributed over $7,000 to this effort. Finally, we would like to thank our colleagues and friends who helped us identify the needs of the community and made the connections:

  • Peter Snyder, Vice President for Research & Economic Development, URI
  • Joan Peckham, Department of Computer Science, URI
  • Betty Rambur, College of Nursing, URI
  • Judy K. Beckman, Business School, URI
  • Richard Pike, Wakefield Rotary Club

We wish everyone the best being safe, healthy, and making the most out of staying at home. (Isaac Newton also worked from home during a pandemic, and ended up discovering gravity. Who knows?)
