Memorial Student Union closing until further notice

As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 effects on our community, the University has made the difficult decision to close the Memorial Union effective Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m.

Food Service

Butterfield Hall is still open Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Brookside Bistro is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. All general seating areas in these facilities are closed and only take-out is available.

Convenience items and grab-n-go foods are still available for purchase at the Corner Store in Hope Commons. Hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ID and Dining Office

All questions to the ID and Dining Office can still be directed to 401.874.2055. This number will be in service Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a voicemail responder and an office member will call back. Any issues with student meal plans can be handled remotely by the staff in this office. If a student requires a new card, after verification by the office staff, this card can be obtained at the Dining Distribution Center at 10 Tootell Road. The hours for the Dining Center location are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Retail

The Rhode Island Credit Union branch in the Memorial Union will close. Credit union members are directed to use the drive through services at other branches. See https://www.ricreditunion.org/ for more information.

Campus Store has closed its store, but you can still purchase items online. https://campusstore.uri.edu/home.

Ram Tech remains open by appointment only. To learn more visit https://ramtech.uri.edu/home. RamTech contact can be done via email at ramtech@etal.uri.edu or by phone at 401.874.2679. RamTech has a limited first-come, first-rented laptop rental program for students. Rental laptops will be shipped directly to the student or picked up by appointment.

In-person mail and package pickup

HRL residents who remain on campus will contact the staff of the Union Express by telephone at 401.874.2189; this must be done by residents in advance to expedite the process and coordinate pickup. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents will provide URI ID to Union Express staff, who will meet them at the stairwell door on the rear of the Memorial Union at the agreed-upon time.

Mail and package forwarding and RE-shipment

All carriers except the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) have automatic package forwarding. Currently, at the resident’s request, we are forwarding packages, in which the original carrier was FedEx, DHL or UPS, via that carrier to the resident’s home address. A pickup schedule for Union Express, by each carrier, is in place but is subject to change.

Mail and packages in which the original carrier was USPS, at resident’s request, are being RE-SHIPPED to the resident via the URI Campus Store. The re-shipment cost of $8 per item will be paid by HRL.

As of Tuesday, April 7, all packages and mail that remain in Union Express that belong to residents who have not completed a “Request-to-Remain” will be forwarded to that resident’s home address via the process outlined above.

All events involving any size group have been canceled through the conclusion of the academic year. For more information, contact the sponsoring office.
