COVID Update: Week of Oct. 24-30

Summary statement:

URI reported 12 positive student cases of COVID-19 from Oct. 24 to Oct. 30, representing an increase of 3 cases from the prior week. Most cases are occurring in the off-campus student population, with 9 of the 12 cases during this period. Contact tracing has established social group and/or residential transmission for these cases, with no transmission identified in the academic setting. Surveillance testing of the associated social and residential groups is being conducted.

URI Health Services has experienced a significant increase in patients presenting with viral respiratory illness, including a marked increase in the percentage of patients testing positive for influenza. Currently, they are not seeing increased COVID-19 rates, which is largely attributed to our 94% vaccination rate amongst students.
