University COVID-19 testing update

As we conclude the spring semester, we extend our congratulations to all those who will be graduating! For students heading back home, wherever that may be, have a healthy, safe, and joyous summer. For those staying with us on campus, we wish you the same and look forward to seeing you.

As the pandemic becomes endemic, URI Health Services will return to its primary mission of meeting the wellness needs of students. COVID-19 testing will continue to be available on campus for faculty, staff, and students until May 20. Beginning Monday, May 16, testing will be conducted at the Health Services service window (to the left of the main entrance) weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Updated testing hours are available here.

Effective Monday, May 23, Health Services, consistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is shifting from conducting routine surveillance testing to concentrating on providing same-day testing for students who have symptoms of COVID-19 and/or those who have been exposed to a case and identified as a close contact. Testing will be done Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Faculty and staff who are symptomatic and/or exposed as of May 23 can contact their primary care provider, visit an urgent care center, or find testing sites in the community. Staff and faculty members who test positive for the COVID-19 virus should not come to work and should notify their supervisors and upload a copy of their positive test result to the patient portal. Faculty and staff should also notify their primary care providers, particularly if they are immunocompromised or at risk for severe disease, to determine whether they are candidates for antiviral medication.

The health and safety of our community remains our main focus. Enjoy the warmer weather and let’s finish the year strong!
