The University of Rhode Island’s cornerstone values seek to create and maintain an environment conducive to personal health and wellness. With the continued spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) we have an imperative to take actions that slow the spread of this virus and protect those most vulnerable in our communities. Below are two important updates regarding travel both domestic and abroad.
Employee Domestic Travel
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all University-related non-essential domestic travel by employees is prohibited until at least April 3. As applicable, consult with your supervisor and funding provider to determine whether your University-related employee domestic travel is essential. We strongly encourage you to consider alternative methods, such as teleconferencing.
For personal travel within the U.S., we strongly urge you to use your judgment and exercise extreme caution. Check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for the latest U.S. travel information.
International Travel
Effective immediately, Thursday, March 12, 2020, all students on study abroad programs in Europe are recalled to the United States. These students have been contacted and the University is working in partnership with its study abroad program providers to assist these students and their families.
Students, faculty and staff who are currently in or recently have traveled from countries with Level 3 travel advisories are to return to their permanent residences in the U.S. and should not return to campus. Those returning to the U.S. should follow the guidelines provided by the CDC Coronavirus Disease 2019 Information for Travel site and continue to follow preventive measures to limit the spread in the community. URI Health Services will outreach to students via their Electronic Health Record (EHR) with information about self-quarantine instructions for 14 days off-campus as well as health information for monitoring the status of their health. Health Services staff remain available at 401.874.2246 should medical questions or concerns arise. Faculty and staff that are returning should call their health care provider.
All members of the community should continue to review the latest COVID-19 information and preventive measures, provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
