Apache Website Hosting
Apache is URI’s core web server application that hosts both WordPress and custom HTML sites.
The ITS web hosting service is the installation and maintenance of web servers in the LAMP environment and primarily focuses on web application hosting. It aims to provide security, reliability and reduces risks associated with server downtime, poor performance, file corruption, and hacker attacks. LAMP is a stack of open-source software used to build a viable general-purpose web server and stands for Linux (operating system), Apache (HTTP server), MySQL (database software), and PHP (server-side scripting language). Apache is an open-source and free web server software that powers around 40% of websites around the world. The official name is Apache HTTP Server, and it’s maintained and developed by the Apache Software Foundation. Apache web hosting is a foundational element of web services at URI. Most workers will never encounter or need direct services or access to the Apache environment. If you require additional information or are experiencing issues with a current Apache instance please contact the ITS Service Desk for technical consultation.
