Mission

As the engineering college at the public flagship research university for the state of Rhode Island, and guided by our heritage as a land- and sea-grant university, our mission is to educate, generate new knowledge, and serve society through the following core principles:

  • Provide access to quality education to a diverse population reflective of our region and society.
  • Cultivate success for all students with the will and desire to obtain an engineering degree.
  • Perform world-class research to solve regional, national, and global challenges.
  • Prepare the Rhode Island workforce to compete in the technology economy of the future.

With five departments and more than 35 programs, the University of Rhode Island College of Engineering offers a broad and forward-thinking education rooted in real-world impact. Our world-renowned International Engineering Program—where students earn two degrees and spend a year abroad—prepares graduates to work across borders and cultures.

At URI, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Students engage in hands-on research, industry internships, global projects, and leadership opportunities through student organizations. Our Engineering Living and Learning Community helps students build connections from day one, preparing them to lead and innovate in a rapidly changing world.
