Welcome to the College of Engineering at the University of Rhode Island! It is my honor and privilege to serve as Dean of Engineering at the public, flagship land and sea grant, R1 research university for the small but mighty Ocean State. Our community of faculty, staff and student scholars are committed to our core principles of providing access to high-quality engineering education, performing world-class research to solve the most important challenges facing our society, and to transform the Rhode Island economy through workforce development and job creation.
I invite you to peruse our website to learn more about what makes our program unique among our peer, public, R1, land and sea grant research institutions. Our connection to the ocean runs deep, with world-class research programs focusing on the development of next-generation nuclear submarines, harnessing the wind and waves for clean energy, assessing the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems and protecting our fragile coastal resources. Our faculty are scholars with nearly 50% receiving National Science Foundation CAREER or Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Awards in the past 15 years.
Our undergraduate students are known for their strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity and sense of purpose, with more than half graduating with a double major or minor. Our pioneering International Engineering Program is the oldest of its kind in the U.S. with over 1,000 alumni who have graduated with a B.A. in a foreign language and a B.S. in engineering while completing an entire year abroad, including six-month global internships at companies such as Siemens, Mercedes, BMW, Bosch, Proctor and Gamble, Amazon and others. Our students benefit from small class sizes with direct access to faculty research laboratories with over 40% of our undergraduate students engaging in undergraduate research for pay or college credit. Top employers and graduate schools have taken notice, with 97% of our graduates reporting employment in their field or graduate school enrollment within six months of graduation.
Prospective students, we invite you to join us here to begin your journey to make your dreams a reality and make the world a better place. Current students, employers, industry partners, alumni, faculty, staff and stakeholders, we invite you to engage with us so that we can fulfill our mission as the public, land and sea grant, research university for the great state of Rhode Island.
Go Rhody!
