The Engineering Computing Center (ECC) is the College of Engineering’s central hub for technology and computing support located Kirk Building, room 203. With over 100 high-performance workstations and access to printers, plotters, scanners, and specialized software, the ECC is designed to help you succeed, whether you’re completing classwork, designing in CAD, or building web applications.
Lab Hours (summer)
Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Closed
The ECC is located in the Kirk Center for Advanced Technology and includes a main lab with 36 computers, collaborative student space, and a conference room. The ECC also manages the following classrooms:
- Kirk 203 = 40 seats
- Kirk 203A = 20 seats
- Kirk 203B = 20 seats
- Kirk 203C Discovery Center = 40 seats
- Kirk 212 = 32 seats

Services
User Accounts
User accounts are required to access all computers and printers in the College of Engineering computer labs. User accounts are provided to all University of Rhode Island engineering students. For help establishing an account or recovering a lost password, please visit the University IT Service Desk.
Printing
Engineering students may print, free of charge, up to 200 black-and-white sheets and 50 color sheets per semester. Plotter printers are available after training. Printing credits are automatically tracked by the network. Credits do not roll over from semester to semester.
Facility Use Policy
The equipment provided by the Engineering Computer Center is for the use of authorized students, faculty and staff in support of academic related activities. Responsible use of the computer systems is expected. Irresponsible use of computer facilities interferes with the academic work of others.
Some examples of irresponsible use include the following:
- intentionally damaging the system;
- damaging information not belonging to you;
- knowingly misusing system resources or allowing misuse of system resources;
- exhibiting loud, lewd, or rowdy behavior;
- downloading, transmitting or making accessible material which may be viewed by others as offensive, harassing, or sexually suggestive.
All computer users should help monitor and maintain a professional atmosphere in which everyone can work effectively. Anyone observing misuse should report the incident to the Computer Operator on duty or the ECC Manager. Repeat violators will have their computing privileges withdrawn and be referred to the Dean of Students.
