URI ESTEEMED is a highly selective program for talented students with an interest in biology, biotechnology, biomedical science, and bioengineering. Each year only 5 students will be selected to participate in the program.

ESTEEMED scholars must meet the following requirements:

• Have an interest in pursuing a career in biomedical- or bioengineering-related field,
• Plan to major in a qualifying STEM discipline (biology, biotechnology, neuroscience, engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field),
• Have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, or are in the top 15% of their class,
• Are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident,
• Identify as being from an underrepresented group or from a disadvantaged background, and
• Are eligible to be a URI Talent Development Scholar.
