Introducing the 2023 URI ESTEEMED Scholars

URI ESTEEM is pleased to introduce the 2023 URI ESTEEMED Scholars. You can read more about the students below.

Lisa Agyemang is a freshman majoring in Engineering at URI. She is originally from Ghana and moved to the US a few years ago. Lisa completed her secondary education at Mount Pleasant High School. During her time there, she was involved in FTC Robotics, cross country, track and field, and French club. She enjoys crafting and playing Sims. Lisa plans on graduating from the University with a Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering. 

Liza Agyemang is a freshman at URI, born and raised in Ghana. She received her high school diploma from Mount Pleasant High School. While she was there, Liza participated in a variety of groups and athletics, including volleyball, French club, philosophy, track and field, robotics, and more. She participated in the Memorial Day parade in Washington, DC in 2023 as a member of the Mount Pleasant Band and Chorus and she later joined the Tri-m Honor Society. Liza is anticipating her time at URI and hopes to explore various fields of Engineering before declaring a major.

Victoria Delacruz grew up in Pawtucket with her mother and siblings and she would often go to her father’s house in Central Falls growing up. Due to her mother’s work schedule Victoria and her siblings had to go to after-school and summer daycare, Progresso Latino. She loved this program she made so many friends and learned a lot. She realized her interest in soccer when the program advisors would take them to Jenks Park. Victoria attended William M. Davies, Jr. Career & Technical High School, focusing on Pre-Engineering to learn about electronics, soldering, and creating circuits. She also joined the soccer team and met so many people. She is now enrolled in URI majoring in Electrical Engineering. 

Emily Rojas is a freshman at URI and is majoring in cell and molecular biology. She is originally from Providence, RI and went to Rhode Island Nurses Institute High School. In high school she was a part of the Tobacco Free Youth Ambassador program, student council, and national honor society. In her free time she enjoys reading, going to the beach, and hanging out with friends and family. She also enjoys being involved with her community.

Hamzeh Tanbakji currently attends the University of Rhode Island as a freshmen. He comes from a Middle Eastern background and is proud of his culture. He is currently planning to major in engineering and is leaning towards Biomedical Engineering. Hamzeh is originally from Cranston, Rhode Island and is the oldest of 3 children. Some of his many interests/hobbies include hanging out with friends, exploring nature/adventuring, playing video games, lifting weights, cologne, and helping out his peers. He is also interested in potentially working towards his pilot’s license for commercial flying for the future. One of his goals for the future include expanding his network of peers to create significant connections. He hopes to be able to work towards inventing something revolutionary or solving a problem that could change the world for the better.
