Nicki Toler

As web editor, Nicki Toler works with her content strategist colleagues and stakeholders across the University of Rhode Island campus on a variety of writing and editorial projects. As editor of the University homepage, her goal is to engage the audience of URI’s most viewed publication with compelling stories and images of what defines and distinguishes the University.

Nicki joined the Communications and Marketing team in 2013 after several years working as web editor in Publications and Creative Services, where she managed the URI alumni website and edited the alumni e-newsletter.

Before URI, she was editor of a community magazine, and for a decade in another lifetime she was a college registrar, an experience that gives her a unique perspective in her work on college and department websites. Nicki was a founding member of URI’s Ocean State Summer Writing Conference, and served for several years as an editor of The Ocean State Review. A published writer, Nicki’s preferred literary form is the lyric essay. She believes in the power of the well-chosen word and that less is more, particularly when writing for the web. Nicki is a longtime student of the Italian language and all things Italian. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Arkansas.
