URI’s website is among the most visible communications channels of the institution, serving more than 6 million visitors and logging 28 million page views each year. As a whole, it represents more than 400 university entities, including academic colleges, schools, and departments; administrative offices; research labs; outreach initiatives; and student organizations.
Though the site has many audiences – faculty, researchers, peers, alumni, donors – the primary purpose of the university’s website is recruitment, and prospective students are the site’s primary audience. We help those visitors answer the question Is URI right for me? by offering them an authentic and easy-to-navigate website, full of stories and engaging experiences that elevate the institution.
Request Web ServicesDigital Content Strategy
Content strategy is planning. Every page on URI’s website must be current, usable, accessible, and informative. Digital content strategy provides guidelines for creating, publishing, and maintaining content that is geared toward your users and fulfilling your objectives.
Content strategy governs the creation and publication of website assets including writing, image selection, audio and video use, visual design, and information architecture.
Whether you need a new site created, or need to redesign an existing one, we’ll work with you to set goals, uncover challenges, engage stakeholders, and build consensus. At the end of the process, we provide you with a strategy document that outlines the discoveries, defines key messages, and provides a roadmap for your digital project.
Web Design
Just because URI uses a template doesn’t mean that every page has to be the same. Each college, department, and organizational unit has its own set of goals and its own set of challenges. There are often similarities, but each is unique.
Web Communications helps you solve design problems. Whether it’s the front page, a secondary landing page, or a tricky content page, we’ll work with you to come up with customized and branded solutions that meet your goals.
Information Design
You have great content, and it’s important that your visitors can find it. When building a new website, or when redesigning an existing one, it’s critical to structure the site in a way that makes sense to your audience. Visitors make decisions about a website in a fraction of a second and ensuring that the navigation and features are relevant can be the difference between an excellent user experience and a frustrating one.
Web Communications partners with your team to perform a content audit on your site and deliver an information architecture that is tailored to your website and its visitors.
Copy Writing
People read at a slower rate on the web and have shorter attention spans than if they were reading traditional print. It poses a unique copywriting challenge that traditional methods can’t meet.
Web Communications can help. We specialize in writing for the web and keeping within URI brand voice guidelines. We can assist with everything from assessing your site’s copy in its entirety to making granular recommendations around alt text, headlines, fascinations, ideal lengths, call-to-action and hyperlink language, style, tone, and navigation naming conventions.
Analytics
How to measure success? That’s one of the first questions when taking on a new project, and it’s not always a simple one to answer. The good news is that it’s easier than ever to measure the success of your digital initiatives. With tools like Google Analytics, you can get a pretty good picture of who is visiting your site and what they’re coming for. But Google Analytics is a powerful tool with many options and it can be challenging to get the information you need.
Web Communications can help you monitor web activity with an eye on a site’s goals. We can build reports that help inform everything from redesigns to everyday strategy, so you can stay on top of how your content is performing and make adjustments as needed.
