Rhody F1rst is a student-led organization at the University of Rhode Island (URI) dedicated to supporting, empowering, and celebrating first-generation college students. Rhody F1rst serves as a vibrant community where students who are the first in their families to attend college can connect, share experiences, and thrive together.

Our mission

Rhody F1rst aims to provide peer support, mentorship, and advocacy that helps first-gen students navigate the college experience with confidence. Through workshops, social events, resource-sharing, and campus collaborations, we aim to foster a sense of belonging and ensure every first-gen student has the tools and community they need to succeed.

Rhody F1rst actively promotes inclusive engagement, creating safe spaces where students from all identities feel welcomed, respected, and affirmed in their experiences.

Redefining excellence

In only its first year as a Student Senate-recognized organization, Rhody F1rst earned the prestigious Team Excellence Award at the 2026 A. Robert Rainville Student Leadership Awards.

RELIVE THIS YEAR’S CEREMONY
“The opportunity to connect with students who are like me who are navigating college life on their own or who don’t have older siblings to like rely on or other people in their family is important.”
2025–26 Rhody F1rst secretary Noelia Marrocco
