Vehicle Operator Guidelines

It is the intent of URI Fleet Management to provide a safe environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. The University maintains State Owned vehicles to assist the staff in the performance of their duties in the most effective, efficient, and safest way possible.  A University vehicle is defined as a vehicle which is owned and registered by the State of Rhode Island.  The following guidelines represent the University Of Rhode Island (URI) and the State of Rhode Island regarding the use of vehicles for University business.

Vehicle Insurance Guidelines

The mission of the Insurance guidelines are to provide clear understanding of university owned state plated vehicle/equipment. Each URI state plated vehicle/equipment will be added to the contracted insurance company for liability insurance only. If a department would like full coverage they must contact: the Risk Control and Insurance Manager at URI’s Enterprise Risk Management

Vehicle Purchasing Guidelines

The mission of the Purchasing Guidelines are to provide clear direction for the University community when acquiring vehicles or equipment with the intent of registering (with a Yellow State Plate) said acquisition for the use of university business. All State of Rhode Island purchasing procedures must be followed. Please contact URI Fleet Management with any questions prior to proceeding.
