CDC warns of an increased risk of dengue in the US

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the CDC issued a Health Alert Network advisory to healthcare providers and the public regarding the risk for infections with dengue virus (DENV).

The advisory cited record-high numbers of dengue cases reported globally in 2024 along with a higher-than-expected number of dengue cases reported among US travelers so far this year. Although most dengue virus infections identified in the US are associated with overseas travel, mosquitoes capable of transmitting the virus are present in many parts of the continental US and local spread has been reported in recent years in parts of Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California.
