Dr. Hans Saint-Eloi Cadely

The Identity Intimacy Research Lab is directed by Dr. Hans Saint-Eloi Cadely. Dr. Saint-Eloi Cadely is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science at the University of Rhode Island. He received an Associate’s in Arts in Psychology from Miami-Dade College in 2006 and a Bachelor of Science from Barry University in 2008. He then furthered his education to receive a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies, both from Auburn University, in 2010 and 2015. It was at Auburn University that Dr. Saint-Eloi Cadely began his research on adolescent romantic relationships. During his time at Auburn, he worked with extension specialists and community leaders across the state of Alabama to implement and examine the effectiveness of relationship education and drug prevention programs targeting adolescents. This led to his later work on the prevalence and change in intimate partner violence (IPV) from adolescence to young adulthood. Dr. Saint-Eloi Cadely has since expanded his research to examine influences on IPV and sexual risk-taking during adolescence and young adulthood; this encompasses the influence of the co-development of identity and intimacy development on these behaviors during these developmental periods. To date, his work has led to several publications in peer-reviewed academic journals within the field of adolescence, emerging adulthood, interpersonal violence, and the receipt of internal funds.
