The Department of Kinesiology Health and Performance Testing Lab offers a variety of testing options to University of Rhode Island students and the public. Body Composition Testing

InBody

The InBody device uses bioelectrical impedance analysis to determine what percent of your body mass is muscle, fat, or water; it will tell you what part of your body each component is most prominent. The InBody will also do an in-depth analysis of your hydration levels, basal metabolic rate, and much more!

The BodPod is a state of the art body composition test that uses air displacement to determine your fat vs. fat-free mass, and your basal metabolic rate!

VO2 Testing

VO2submax Test

Similar to the VO2max test, the VO2submax test will give much of the same information. The difference between the two is that while in VO2max test you will exercise at your full capacity until you can not go anymore, a VO2submax test is much lower intensity and will estimate your results.

Lactate Threshold

Lactate is a compound that is naturally created by the body, at lower intensities lactate is able to be shuttled out of the blood stream. As exercise increases participants reach a lactate threshold.

Biodex

Biodex machine

Strength and muscular endurance can be measured extremely accurately through the use of an isokinetic machine. This can help participants learn about the strength of different muscle groups as the health of joint. Participants are often refered to the clinic from physical therapists to plan a patients rehabilitation from injury.

Wingate

The Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT)

The Wingate Anaerobic Test (WAnT) is a fast-paced, high intensity test designed to determine your anerobic strength and power. By completing a 30 second max intensity cycle it can be determined how much power you can generate, the capacity of how long you can hold that intensity, and trend of quickly your energy depletes. This can be extremely useful information for athletes that utilize anaerobic metabolism on a regular basis, such as soccer players, hockey players, and sprinters.
