VO2 Submaximal and Max Tests

VO2max is the best measure of cardiovascular fitness level. The test can be performed on a cycle or treadmill. For the submaximal test, VO2max will be estimated based on results from a lower workload. For the max test the participant goes until exhaustion (or he/she chooses to stop).

Lactate Threshold Test

Lactate threshold is a popular test among competitive distance runners. The results can help in designing an effective training program.

Resting Metabolic Rate

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) reflects the number of calories burned at rest.

Results can help in designing a diet and exercise program.

Body Composition

Body composition refers to the body’s amount of fat mass relative to fat-free mass. Individuals with a healthy body composition are typically healthier, generally move more easily and have a reduced risk and/or better management of chronic diseases.

The BOD POD GS (image left) determines body composition in terms fat mass and fat free mass. Test results will include body fat percentage and health classification.

The InBody 770 (image left) measures body fat, skeletal muscle mass, and total body water. Test results include body fat percentage, hydration levels, and specific analysis of arms, legs and trunk.

***Individuals with an implanted defibrillator or pacemaker should not use the InBody 770.

Muscle Fitness Tests

Muscular strength is an important component of health-related fitness.

The Biodex System 4 Pro (pictured) is capable of measuring muscular strength and power of the upper and lower body.

The Wingate Cycle Test is a measure of anaerobic (without oxygen) power. This test is popular among hockey players and sprint sport athletes. Power and rate of fatigue are calculated.
