Biography

Abby is a junior majoring in Biotechnology and Cell and Molecular Biology with a concentration in Biochemistry. She is also minoring in Chemistry. As a MARC trainee, Abby is looking to pursue her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology when she graduates from URI. She is motivated by her interest in molecular processes, and enjoyment of learning new things.

Currently, Abby works in the Steven Gregory lab where she uses CRISPR to modify proteins in the ribosome. The ribosome is made up of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal proteins. In Abby’s project, she is working to better understand the interactions between those proteins and RNAs with the active site of the ribosome.

When Abby is not in lab or studying, she enjoys being outside when it is warm. She loves hiking, walking, and exploring different areas. Cooking and baking are also some of her favorite pastimes. Abby also loves hanging out with her friends, getting coffee, and crocheting.
