Biography

My name is Anya and I am a graduate student at the University of Miami working towards a PhD in Neuroscience. I’m from Belmont, MA, but moved down to Miami to trade the snowstorms for palm trees. I love being by the water and looking for sea creatures. Back home, I have a very fluffy dog and a beautiful blue betta fish.

Research

My graduate program requires incoming students to do three rotations in different labs before we commit to our dissertation lab and project. I am currently trying out new techniques across many fields until I join my dissertation lab. My previous work focused on the effects of perinatal exposure to perfluorooctane sulfuric acid (PFOS) on Alzheimer’s pathology in wild-type mice. I ran behavioral tests as well as biochemical assays to examine protein expression. This allowed the identification of potential Alzheimer’s biomarkers.
