Biography

Tyrus Perdue graduated in spring 2021 as a cell and molecular biology major. Tyrus was a member of the of URI emergency medical services, served as a tutor in the URI Academic Enhancement Center, and participated in the URI Rotaract Club. This fall Tyrus is entering his first year of graduate studies in the MS Program in Microbiology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. In the future he plans to become a researcher for infectious disease and vaccines.

Research

As a MARC U*STAR trainee, Tyrus studied gene regulation in vitro in tumor spheroids by comparing SWI/SNF between the three layers of the tumor spheroids in different cell lines. These layers are the outer (normoxic), middle (hypoxic), and inner (necrotic) layers.
