Undergraduate Program Learning Outcomes

The following are the learning outcomes that the Department of Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematical Sciences has specified for its B.A. in Mathematics, B.S. in Mathematics (Pure) and B.S. in Mathematics (Applied) Programs.

1. Demonstrate a command of fundamental concepts of calculus and linear algebra to acquire a solid foundation for advanced courses.
2. Demonstrate a command of concepts from advanced courses in mathematics to acquire depth of knowledge.
3. Construct rigorous mathematical arguments to prove or disprove mathematical statements.
4. Use technology to perform calculations, create visualizations, and test hypotheses.
5. Effectively communicate mathematical ideas to a variety of audiences.
6. Apply mathematical methods to solve problems in other disciplines.
