Mathematics B.S.

Overview

The B.S. in Mathematics offers more emphasis on coursework and theory, preparing you well for graduate study in math. The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics curriculum offers specializations in General Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The Applied Mathematics track also has an option to pursue a 5-year bachelor’s to master’s.

Curriculum

A total of 120 credits are required for graduation.

  • MTH 243: Calculus for Functions of Several Variables
  • MTH 307: Introduction to Mathematical Rigor
  • MTH 316: Algebra
  • MTH 435: Mathematical Analysis and Topology I
  • MTH 436: Mathematical Analysis and Topology II
  • MTH 462: Functions of a Complex Variable

For both BS Mathematics specializations, credits earned in MTH 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 208, 209, or 420 cannot be applied and at most one of MTH 244 or MTH 362 can be used.

Admission Requirements

In order to transfer from University College for Academic Success to the College of Arts and Sciences, students must complete a minimum of 24 credits, have a GPA of 2.00 or higher, and have credit for MTH 141 through transfer/AP or by completing it at URI with a grade of C or better.
