Biography

Walter Hunter is a full-time mediator and arbitrator and member of several arbitration panels, including panels with the American Arbitration Association, Labor Relations Connection, Inc. and the Rhode Island Superior Court.  He has over 40 years of experience in labor and employment law.

Walter is a graduate of West Point and the University of Virginia School of Law.  Prior to becoming an arbitrator and mediator, Walter was an Army Captain, a partner at Edwards and Angell, the Vice President of Administration at Brown University and a Shareholder at Littler Mendelson.  Walter has a national reputation for expertise in labor and employment law, having testified, for example, as an expert witness before joint congressional subcommittees on NLRB issues affecting higher education.  He is a frequent speaker at national or regional conferences and webinars, and has been quoted by numerous national publications, including Bloomberg’s BNA Health Reporter, Inside Higher Ed, Law 360.com, The Examiner and the Chronicle of Higher Education.  He has been selected in hundreds of arbitration and mediation cases since leaving private practice to become an arbitrator and mediator.
