Biography

Lan T. Kantany is the Chair of the Commonwealth Employment Relations Board, the appellate body within the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations. She began her employment at the Department of Labor Relations as a hearing officer/arbitrator/mediator and was subsequently promoted to Chief Counsel, where she served for nearly three years. In her role as Chief Counsel, she defended the Board’s decisions in briefs and at oral arguments in the Appeals Court and at injunction proceedings seeking to enforce the Commonwealth’s law prohibiting public sector employee strikes. Before joining the Department of Labor Relations, Ms. Kantany was an attorney for six years at a law firm in western Massachusetts, representing employees and unions in employment and labor law matters before the state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Ms. Kantany is a graduate of Fitchburg State University and Western New England University School of Law.
