Leadership/Mentor Trainings

The Leadership Partnership of Rhode Island is a group of Rhode Island employers in the manufacturing and related industries, in partnership with the University of Rhode Island, to offer professional development for leaders in the industry. The leadership and mentoring training is provided free of charge to the company and employees because it is supported by grant funding from Real Jobs RI.

Leadership and mentoring training programs are designed to:

  • Prepare/develop/support new and emerging leaders through
    • Competency-based classroom instruction
    • Mentoring from an experienced leader
    • On-the-job training plan to transfer learning
  • Prepare/develop experienced leaders to be mentors
    • Membership in Mentoring Network
  • Increase engagement among high potential employees and leaders in RI and provide opportunity to visit other manufacturing organization campuses across the state.

Participating employers include: Toray Plastics (Quonset), AstroNova (West Warwick), Taco Comfort Solutions (Cranston), and Dominion Diagnostics (Quonset).  


LEAD (Leading through Engagement, Achievement and Developing others) Program.
This program was a collaboration between URI and General Dynamics/Electric Boat.

LEAD training is designed to:
Prepare/develop/support mid-management employees, i.e. superintendents and general foremen, to develop and inspire their teams through

  • Competency-based classroom instruction in
    • Management principles for recognizing and adapting to emotional intelligence
    • Corrective coaching to address performance deficits
    • Effective communication for staff
    • Relationship building
    • Performance and assigning tasks beyond the comfort zone, and
    • Influencing people

 

Participants in all OSI workforce development programs earn URI Certification and Continuing Education Units. Our office works with all organizations to develop and create a leadership/mentor program for all industries.
