What motivates you to be visible on campus?

Other than completing the Safe Zone training, I have not had targeted engagement with the LGBTQ community at URI. I have, however, had many LGBTQ students in my classes and the graduate program I manage. It is important that they feel welcome and supported by me and the broader URI community. I make a conscious effort to include examples that recognize various types of diversity in my syllabus and course activities. For example, in a syllabus survey assignment, one of the sample scenarios includes a person who uses they/them pronouns.
