Identity: Ally
What motivates you to be visible on campus?
I am motivated to be visible and to serve as an ally on campus because I believe everyone on campus deserve to feel seen, respected, and supported in both academic and personal spaces. In my teaching, specifically in my course on Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Communicative Disorders (CMD 493G), we explicitly discuss how to engage in culturally responsive assessment and intervention practices with individuals who are part of the LGBTQ community. These conversations emphasize not only knowledge, but also the importance of affirming diverse identities in clinical and educational contexts. Beyond the classroom, I strive to support the LGBTQ community on campus by creating a safe, affirming environment and by modeling inclusive language and practices.
