What motivates you to be visible on campus?

Academia has a long history of marginalizing individuals who don’t fit into the stereotypical box. Particularly in STEM fields, we have done a poor job of including individuals who may not typically be represented in those fields including women, individuals in the BIPOC community, first generation students, and those in the LGBTQIA community. At each institution where I have been employed, I have been actively involved as an ally for LGBTQIA students/staff/faculty and worked to increase the opportunities for those students within STEM disciplines.
