What motivates you to be visible on campus?

Navigating the world as an LGBTQ+ person can present numerous stressors and challenges, and sometimes it is difficult for others to understand. I want students, faculty, and staff to know that I strive to create a safe and affirming space for all, including those with multiple minoritized identities. I am visible on campus to normalize our community’s presence, to challenge society’s narrow assumptions of who an LGBTQ+ person must be or false perceptions of how one must look, to provide hope to others who may be struggling with their identity, and to honor our predecessors who fought for the human rights that we have today.
