The European Space Agency (ESA) has given the go-ahead to the 2035 launch of a powerful space-based observatory with the ability to detect gravitational waves caused by violent astrophysical events and probe the entire history of the Universe. The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) project is a collaboration among ESA, NASA and international scientists, including researchers at the University of Rhode Island.
