Procedure for Shredding of Confidential Documents

Dismiss message

Effective January 1, 2019

Shredding: Departments will be charged to cover the costs for shredding.

Small bins are $20 each and hold approximately 5 boxes of paper.

Large bins are $30 each and hold approximately 8 boxes of paper. An IVPO for the total amount must be submitted with the work order.

Questions should be directed to Central Receiving at 874-2578 or 874-5468.

Only documents, which are confidential in nature, will be shredded. URI Recycling (874-2840) should pick up all other paperwork.

Central Receiving will no longer be picking up sealed boxes, only locked bins which are obtained by completing a work order.

Departments will be responsible for filling the locked bins with confidential documents. Do not place sealed boxes into the bins. Only paper and staples are acceptable items to be shredded. All paperclips, wire clips and hanging folders need to be removed.

Central Receiving staff, Moving contractors and students will only be handling the locked bins.

Steps needed to obtain a locked bin.

  1. Download and complete the Work Order for Shredding.
  2. Fax or email the completed form to central_receiving@etal.uri.edu or 874-5719.
  3. Central Receiving will deliver the bin with a key to the department. The department will be responsible for dropping all confidential documents into the bin and locking it. Once completed, The Department will call Central Receiving to arrange a pick up of the bin (874-5468 or 874-2578).
  4. The locked bin will be returned to Central Receiving and will be stored in a secure location until the shredding vendor comes on site to shred.
