Biography
Amy Broemmel, PhD, is a professor and Associate Dean for Teacher Education at the University of Rhode Island. She began her teaching career in northern Illinois as a 2nd grade teacher at a school filled with children whose families historically farmed or worked in the local factory, but with a growing number suburban families moving out of the nearby city. She took a leave of absence from her teaching position to work on her PhD and ended up making the transition to higher education earlier than anticipated. She taught elementary and literacy courses at Eastern Illinois University and the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, before taking a position at the University of Tennessee, where she mentored doctoral students, served as the director of graduate studies for her department, taught elementary and literacy courses, and guided graduate elementary teaching interns through their residency year, action research projects, and edTPA assessments and for over 20 years.
