Biography

Carnell Jones is the Director of Enrollment Services at the University of Rhode Island. His academic journey began on a four-year athletic scholarship, followed by a period of academic setback that led him to community college and then transfer to a four-year institution, where he became involved in TRIO programs. He went on to complete his degree and later earned a graduate assistantship for his master’s program, beginning his career in higher education. His institution supported him in completing his doctoral degree, further shaping his professional path. His experiences reflect resilience, persistence, and the transformative impact of educational opportunity and support programs. He is committed to sharing the lessons he has learned throughout his journey with students. As a mentor, Carnell emphasizes belonging and self-worth, reminding students that they have a right to be at URI, that they matter, and that they deserve the opportunities available to them.
