The First-Gen Advocacy and Impact Council is a dedicated group of faculty and staff who support and advance first-generation student initiatives at the University of Rhode Island. Serving in a strategic and advisory capacity, the council plays a critical role in shaping the direction, growth, and long-term sustainability of first-generation programming and support.

Aligned with the University of Rhode Island’s strategic plan, the council advances key institutional priorities:

Enhancing Student Achievement

Supporting programs that promote student success, persistence, and engagement.

Fostering an Inclusive Culture

Centering equity, belonging, and access for first-generation students.

Broadening URI’s Impact

Strengthening partnerships and expanding support across campus and community networks

Council members provide high-level guidance, contribute to programming, offer ongoing support, advocate for institutional resources, and foster cross-campus collaboration to ensure that initiatives remain impactful, equitable, and aligned with student needs.

Through their leadership and partnership, the council strengthens the foundation of first-generation student success efforts while advancing institutional priorities and empowering student leaders and the organization’s executive board to thrive.
