Timeline:

Description:
Following an investigation, the University found sufficient evidence to support that Kappa Sigma had engaged in hazing activities beginning Fall 2025 through Spring 2026, including the following: 

• It is more likely than not that the New Member Program required, caused, coerced, or forced new members to engage in activities that caused physical harm or threat of harm.  
• New members were coerced or forced to engage in personal acts of servitude, including driving brothers for social engagements.  
• Serving/Providing alcohol to new members during multiple events. 
Violations:
• 03. Abusive Conduct
• 04. Endangering Behavior
• 06. Hazing
• 10. Misuse of Alcohol
• 17. Violation of Federal, State, and Local Law
• 19. Abuse of the Student Conduct System 
Did the hazing violation involve the abuse or illegal use of alcohol or drugs?
• Yes
Sanctions:
• Chapter Suspension effective July 9, 2026- September 1, 2036. 
• While under suspension, the chapter is considered not in good standing and is no longer recognized at the University of Rhode Island.
Outcome(s):
• As a result of these findings, Kappa Sigma Fraternity accepted responsibility for all charges during the student conduct administrative process on July 8, 2026.
