Biography

Andrew Hixson Meyer is a gardener and painter who sees creativity and care as essential parts of his recovery and his understanding of harm reduction. Working with soil, plants, and paint has taught him patience, presence, and how to show up for something a little bit each day. These practices mirror what healing has looked like in his own life.

Slow, imperfect, and rooted in growth, his work is grounded in the belief that recovery is not only about abstinence, but also about finding meaningful ways to nurture yourself, build beauty from difficult experiences, and stay open to change.

Andrew is an undergraduate student at the University of Rhode Island, pursuing a dual degree in Psychology and Fine Arts, and he serves as a Peer Recovery Specialist at URI Health Services. He recently accepted admission to the “Behavioral Health and Counseling” masters program at URI. He is passionate about creating spaces through art, gardens, and peer support where people feel seen, supported, and free to define recovery for themselves.
