Carl Stiles, Ed.D.

Biography

As Director, Memorial Union, Dr. Stiles’  aim is to provide the visionary leadership and financial stewardship that further promotes and integrates the dynamic learning environment of the classroom with the experiential aspect of the out-of-classroom into a seamless experience for all students. He  earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (April 2012, Johnson & Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island; Dissertation: The Relationship Between Graduate Orientation Programs and Satisfaction with Institutional Choice) and was the Dissertation Committee Nominee for: NASPA Melvene D. Hardee Dissertation of the Year. Additionally, I have earned Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Leadership (May 2011, Johnson & Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island); Master of Education in Student Personnel Administration (May 1989, Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts); and, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (May 1987, Western New England (College) University, Springfield, Massachusetts). Employment history includes:

  • Director, Memorial Union (June 2017–Present, University of Rhode Island);
  • Dean of Student Life (August 2014–May 2017, Husson University);
  • Director of Student Activities and Campus Union (January 2005–August 2014, Springfield College) (title change from: Director of Student Activities and Campus Programs in January 2010);
  • Associate Director of Student Life – Campus Center Operations and Leadership (May 2001–August 2005, College of Staten Island, City University of New York);
  • Director of Student Life (January 2000–May 2001, Fairleigh Dickinson University);
